Newberry, South Carolina welcomes the fall season with a full calendar of festivities. This small college town in the midlands region charms visitors with its historic downtown and famous Opera House. This fall Newberry offers an Elvis festival, a dinner theater production, Oktoberfest, and Newberry College football weekends. Here are the highlights of upcoming events.

Newberry hosts the first South Carolina Elvis Festival September 12-15. The festival celebrates the life and music of Elvis Presley and is sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., which controls the Presley estate. The 4 day festival includes two headline shows featuring Elvis tribute artists Shawn Klush and Ben Portsmouth, along with Cliff Wright. The Friday night show, Memories, celebrates Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. The Saturday evening show is a tribute to the 40th anniversary of Elvis Aloha from Hawaii concert. The festival also includes the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and the Elvis Gospel Contest. Shows take place at the historic Newberry Opera House. Tickets are $79 for the performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. A $149 package includes both tribute shows and the contests.

Newberry College plays several home football games this fall. The home opener will be September 14 against Florida Tech. On September 28 Newberry will host South Atlantic Conference rival Mars Hill College. Homecoming is scheduled for October 12 against Tusculum College. Homecoming activities include a carnival, Homecoming dance, fireworks, 5K run, alumni reunions, and a Homecoming Parade. Newberry is at home on October 28 against UNC Pembroke. November 2 is a home game with conference opponent Brevard College. The final home game of the 2013 season is November 16 against North Greenville University. Single game tickets are $15 for general admission and $16 for reserved seating. Tickets are $10 for ages 18 and under.

The Newberry Community Players will present their fall dinner theater production, The Foreigner, on September 28-29 and October 5-6. The comedy is set at a rural Georgia fishing lodge, where one man in a group of friends pretends he is a foreigner and cannot speak English. The special dinner theater venue is Steven W s Downtown Bistro, located at 1100 Main Street. Tickets are $42, and a cash bar is available.

The party of the season will be Newberry s 13th Annual Oktoberfest, held October 5 in downtown Newberry. This fun family festival includes live entertainment, craft vendors, classic car show, liver nips contest, German food, and beer garden serving domestic and German beer. The kids will enjoy rides, games, and a puppet show. The Columbia Marionette Theatre will present free performances of Rumplestiltskin. Admission to Oktoberfest is free, and there is plenty of free parking available in the downtown area.
